Engagement with companies in which we are interested is vital to the entire investment process. As such we endeavour to meet with the company’s senior management prior to investing and on a regular basis throughout any holding period. We use this as an opportunity not only to gain more information about the company, its operations and its approach to corporate governance and corporate responsibility issues, but also to communicate with them our views on best practice and any company specific issues that we may have.

Fundamentally, we believe that companies that combine good governance and corporate responsibility are better positioned for long-term success. As a large shareholder, we are able to influence the direction of companies and encourage more sustainable business practices. A company’s responsiveness to these issues helps us to deepen our view of the quality of the company’s management.
